  17.     Just to avoid confusion, I should mention that "MACLisp", one of the ancestral Lisp implementations, a real landmark in the development of the language, and for many years the undisputed workhorse of the artificial intelligence community, has nothing to do with the Apple Macintosh!  The "MAC" in MACLisp stands for "Project MAC", a computer science project at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  MACLisp runs on Digital Equipment Corporation mainframes ΓÇö DECΓÇô20s and the like.
